Hi Ryan,

Thanks for your feedback.

We used to fully script everything, but found that everything sounded...scripted. So now we script the "data" type parts and improvise on stories and chat. It means information is clear but we're developing more of a personal voice. It's these bits that take the transcription time.

Good luck with PodCamp Orlando!

Hi Craig,

Not even the Closed Caption people type exactly every word that the person says - instead they type out what is needed to get the point across - I know because my dad always has CC on. They're cerainly under time constraints, but there must be some science to it as well. Interpereting. Translating.

Although I agree with up about their site, I'm interested to know why you're against transcripts and podcasts.

We spend ages each week writing up transcripts for most episodes of the indie travel podcast (www.indietravelpodcast.com) -- it has to be said it's a labour of love.

But our listeners seem to download them, they can be emailed to friends, etc.

Any ideas?

Touche, sir.

I was very busy in looking for things to pick apart with these guys. Please note that I did suggest a much more useful alternative (or addition) to said transcripts.

You state, "... any podcast with a transcript defeats the point of it being audio or video. "

Surely you don't mean to exclude the deaf from podcast content. Sometimes being too much of a purist can defeat the point of being accessible. Maybe, as some are beginning to suggest, it's time to explore alternatives to the word "podcast".
