Honoring DrupalCon Volunteers

Tue, 04/12/2016 - 15:13 -- rprice

Track Team - with two to three volunteers per track, this is the team that sets the tone of what content you will be hearing in sessions. They begin thinking about this at least 5 months before the Con and meet weekly to move the session content forward. Between writing track descriptions, reaching out to speakers to curate sessions, reading every single session submission, helping build the schedule and later acting as coaches for their speakers, this team signs up for a long and heavy time commitment and the fruits of their labor results in amazing sessions.

in the middle of the campaign, Fargo launched KickingItForward.org, a website that urged Kickstarter creators who reached their funding goal to pledge 5 percent of their profits to other Kickstarter campaigns. Fargo pledged to do the same. Since then, what started as a simple idea has grown into a widespread movement. Thousands of Kickstarter creators have since pledged to kick it forward if they meet their goal. Of that group, more than 1,000 projects have been successfully funded.

A helping hand — Artistic Hand owner bounces back - Seminole Chronicle

Fri, 05/02/2014 - 09:55 -- rprice

Seaman and his shop play an important function in the lives of many people in and around Oviedo. For someone such as Patti Landis, who recently moved from Ohio and is at the gallery on almost a daily basis, it is much more than a place to observe original art. "I had to get here and see what in the world was going on when I passed by this pink building," Landis said. "Being new down here, it's kind of hard to get in a clique and meet new people. After I started [coming to the studio], it's hard to get away.

Coding Horror: The Future of Markdown

Mon, 11/05/2012 - 09:39 -- rprice

I propose that Stack Exchange, GitHub, Meteor, Reddit, and any other company with lots of traffic and a strategic investment in Markdown, all work together to come up with an official Markdown specification, and standard test suites to validate Markdown implementations. We've all been working at cross purposes for too long, accidentally fragmenting Markdown while popularizing it.

The Hack Factory is what's known as a "maker space." Operated by Twin Cities (TC) Maker, the Hack Factory is a community-shared workspace that offers a cornucopia of tools and machinery for members like Harrison to take their do-it-yourself urges to the extreme.

TC Maker is one of two such operations in the metro area. The Mill, in northeast Minneapolis, opened early this year.

Open Internet of Things Assembly | June 16 & 17th 2012, London

Thu, 07/05/2012 - 21:07 -- rprice

We, the undersigned, believe that the class of technologies currently described as the “Internet of Things” has genuine potential to deliver value, meaning, insight, and fun as well as a totalitarian control society. [Some words about potential to support evidence-based policy, catalyze the emergence of self-aware publics, and enhance the specifically political agency of human users.]
