Reach Out Your Hand and Let There Be Light | Leap Motion Developer Labs

Wed, 01/22/2014 - 07:53 -- rprice

The Leap Motion Controller seemed like an intriguing way to control the lights, so I created a modular framework using Scala and the Leap Motion Java API. After thinking about what a modular system would look like, and what kind of features it should have, I decided that it should be easy to extend, configurable, contain a message system synchronizing the color settings from various connectors, and include a remote start/stop option for the system. In the video below, you can see the installation in action;

CheerLights is an ioBridge Labs project that allows people's lights all across the world to synchronize, stay linked based on social networking trends. It's a way to connect physical things with social networking experiences and spread cheer at the same time.

BBC News - Coldplay Xylobands light up Devon company's profits

Mon, 09/10/2012 - 09:46 -- rprice

Mr Regler's wristbands have now been an integral part of more than 60 Coldplay shows, along with balloons, confetti, lasers and of course the music.

It is a huge leap forward for the firm which still employs only four people but is looking to expand.

The firm's success goes back to the summer of 2005.

It had been making electronic technology for children's toys, but had to file for bankruptcy after another firm failed to pay for a year's work.

Luminous Tide Studios: Artwork of Christine Betow

Mon, 07/30/2012 - 15:07 -- rprice

Christine Betow Seerveld recently moved to Orlando, FL where she spends her days making metal art. She studied music theory and mathematics at Whitman College and outdoor recreation at Western Washington University. Somehow from this hodge podge of interests she took a love of form, structure, geometry, and the natural world and has applied it to her art. She first attended Burning Man in 2006 where she saw The Flaming Lotus Girl's piece, Serpent Mother. This is what first inspired her to take up welding.

Piano Lightbox » minor9th.com

Thu, 07/05/2012 - 15:28 -- rprice

I’d like to make a piano which spews light, cleverly, depending on what keys are pressed. It should be fairly seamless and not overt, so the workings need to hide inside, but the basic premise is:

Someone plays the keys -> Some magic processing happens -> The music is interpreted, tastefully, in light form and slips out from above the keybed, over the top of the piano and beyond.
