On any given day, 20mission looks and feels kind of like a dormitory — under minor construction, for now. Energetic tenants scurry from unit to unit, shuffling past screwdrivers and sanders on the unfinished hardwood floors. The smell of new wood, paint and primer fills the hallways. There are 40 residents and each gets his or her own standard-size bedroom for $1,400 per month. Residents range between their mid 20s and mid 40s. They share five bathrooms, four showers, a washer and dryer and a massive office space downstairs. Rent pricing is that of a typical studio in San Francisco.

the strength of FamiLab is in the ideas created there. And that's a big reason why they're looking at Orlando as an area to expand to. “Just on an innovation standpoint, it’s a very rich setup that they had there,” Dauphin said. “The hardest part [of starting a company] is having the idea to leverage. That’s the strength of FamiLab: good people with very good ideas.”

The front, where you find the cafe, is open to the public. The nerve center of the space is an atrium of open workspace, which costs a few hundred dollars a month for membership. The outer rim of the bullpen is lined with glass-enclosed studios where mid-stage startups rent space next to one another, but don't get tied to long-term leases.

To figure out your why, here is a simple exercise you can take yourself through: List what you are passionate about. List all the reasons you want to start a company. List all the emotions and desires you feel. (Frustration, hope, happiness, wanting freedom, etc) List what you want to change, improve, or make better in the world. These could be literal to the activity (i.e., make something easier), the feeling your customers will have (i.e., make people happy), or something you want to change (i.e., make the world better).
