A Kinect-Powered Animation That Evolves With Your Body Movements | Design | WIRED

Tue, 06/24/2014 - 11:01 -- rprice

As visitors move through the gallery the story progresses and Mr. Kalia begins transforming. The experience is more Dalí than Disney. Mr. Kalia’s body is covered by locks, his hands turn into gushing fountains, and birds begin flocking to branches that sprout from various parts of his body. Mr. Kalia’s transformation was brought to life using an impressive toolchain that included the Kinect, C++, Coffeescript, CSS, Google Compute Engine, Nite, Node.js, OpenFrameworks, Openni, Paper.js, Socket.io, and Tween.js, all to be rendered in a Google Chrome browser window.

Digital Tapestry: Lockheed Martin moves 3D printing to the production line #3DThursday #3DPrinting « adafruit industries blog

Wed, 11/13/2013 - 06:36 -- rprice

the company’s next-generation digital manufacturing technologies called Digital Tapestry. This is a Model Based Engineering (MBE) tool that Integrates design and manufacturing into a single process. It goes beyond CAD design by providing a digital virtual environment called the Collaborative Human Immersive Laboratory (CHIL), where designers can manipulate parts or even entire machines to see how they go together and operate. As they do so, the system produces a constant stream of automatically updated specifications.

Jeongmoon Choi | TRIANGULATION BLOG

Mon, 11/11/2013 - 13:21 -- rprice

"Jeongmoon Choi works with thread and traces this three-dimensional line directly into volume to create illusions of perspective. The thread is coloured and used to outline or redefine the architecture of the spaces the artist invests. Drawing directly into space with her hand, the artist addresses questions about our environment, as well as about aspects of lodging and the role of nature in our urban spaces.." - Galerie Laurent Mueller.

Mash, Mish, & Mesh STLs with Matthew Plummer-Fernandez’s Disarming Corruptor Tool #3DThursday #3DPrinting « adafruit industries blog

Mon, 11/11/2013 - 10:15 -- rprice

the application runs an algorithm that is used to both corrupt STL files into a visually-illegible state by glitching and rotating the 3D mesh, and to allow a recipient to reverse the effect to restore it back to its original form. The file recipient would need both the application and the unique seven digit settings used by the sender, entering the incorrect settings would only damage the file further.

the artists wrote custom software that deconstructs a 3D model's source code and produces unique fragments. They further remixed these fragments using an original application created in Processing. The resulting images become limited edition prints, wall-sized paintings, animations, and most recently, a permanent public art installation at the University of Florida’s College of Journalism and Communication, opening October 19, 2012.

Changes - Processing

Mon, 09/10/2012 - 05:58 -- rprice

All the great things from Android have now been back-ported to the desktop version of Processing, so we have a super fast OpenGL library.

choose between "Standard", "Android", and "JavaScript" mode. Those are the current modes that are being included, though we may add/remove modes as we head to 2.0 (a Jython mode is lurking about, for instance. Mmmm! Tempting.) Like Tools and Libraries, it will be possible for other parties to write their own modes that work inside the PDE.

Ninja power: open-source HTML5 toolset aims to enable richer Web apps | Ars Technica

Fri, 07/27/2012 - 09:41 -- rprice

The Ninja authoring tool is a Google Chrome app for designing keyframe-based animation with HTML5, including 3D scenes and vector graphics. These scenes can incorporate components built on the Montage framework (see below), and the editor itself is built using Montage. Ninja includes a familiar set of drawing and layout tools, such as the Pen and Brush tools for creating graphics, shape primitives, and the Tag tool for creating page structure ( or tags, for instance). Graphics you create in Ninja can be rendered in the browser with either the Canvas 2D API or WebGL.
