A Kinect-Powered Animation That Evolves With Your Body Movements | Design | WIRED

Tue, 06/24/2014 - 14:01 -- rprice

As visitors move through the gallery the story progresses and Mr. Kalia begins transforming. The experience is more Dalí than Disney. Mr. Kalia’s body is covered by locks, his hands turn into gushing fountains, and birds begin flocking to branches that sprout from various parts of his body. Mr. Kalia’s transformation was brought to life using an impressive toolchain that included the Kinect, C++, Coffeescript, CSS, Google Compute Engine, Nite, Node.js, OpenFrameworks, Openni, Paper.js, Socket.io, and Tween.js, all to be rendered in a Google Chrome browser window.

This Is Story

Mon, 12/23/2013 - 11:12 -- rprice

Set in a 2000 square foot store located in Manhattan’s 10th Ave. retail corridor, STORY is a retail concept that takes the point of view of a magazine, changes like a gallery and sells things like a store. That means every four to eight weeks, STORY completely reinvents itself – from merchandise and store design to floor plan and fixtures – to bring to light a new theme, trend, or issue. So how did it all get started?

Jeongmoon Choi | TRIANGULATION BLOG

Mon, 11/11/2013 - 16:21 -- rprice

"Jeongmoon Choi works with thread and traces this three-dimensional line directly into volume to create illusions of perspective. The thread is coloured and used to outline or redefine the architecture of the spaces the artist invests. Drawing directly into space with her hand, the artist addresses questions about our environment, as well as about aspects of lodging and the role of nature in our urban spaces.." - Galerie Laurent Mueller.

Arthouse Coop Sketchbook Project 2012 Hits Orlando Florida | Poetic Mapping: Walking into Art

Tue, 10/09/2012 - 09:36 -- rprice

There’s a huge diversity of art on a variety of themes. Below is a snapshot of a selection of some entries based on a theme of Food.

The theme I chose for my entry was Thread and Surface, in which I began an exploration, in the sketchbook, of a second in my Books of the Dead series.

the artists wrote custom software that deconstructs a 3D model's source code and produces unique fragments. They further remixed these fragments using an original application created in Processing. The resulting images become limited edition prints, wall-sized paintings, animations, and most recently, a permanent public art installation at the University of Florida’s College of Journalism and Communication, opening October 19, 2012.
