p5.js

Mon, 04/06/2015 - 14:21 -- rprice

Hello! p5.js is a JavaScript library that starts with the original goal of Processing, to make coding accessible for artists, designers, educators, and beginners, and reinterprets this for today’s web. Using the original metaphor of a software sketchbook, p5.js has a full set of drawing functionality. However, you’re not limited to your drawing canvas, you can think of your whole browser page as your sketch! For this, p5.js has addon libraries that make it easy to interact with other HTML5 objects, including text, input, video, webcam, and sound.

The Future of Libraries Has Little to Do with Books

Fri, 01/09/2015 - 15:06 -- rprice

libraries across the nation are re-inventing themselves by increasingly becoming “vibrant and attractive community hubs,” focusing on the “need to create digital literacy—and in an ideal world, digital fluency.” Photo from Bibliothèque publique d'information Taking into account the proliferation of freelancing, the gig economy, and remote-working (also known as ‘technomadism’), the rise of library as community hub begins to make sense.

Right Service at the Right Time (RS/RT) | Urban Libraries Council

Wed, 09/17/2014 - 07:01 -- rprice

The RS/RT project provides a “create once, serve many” option that also provides the user with a level of privacy that generally face-to-face reference interviews cannot. The product was designed from a user’s stand point. Understanding that many service seekers have little experience with technology, we designed a clean and simple interface, requiring only a few actions to progress to the next step. We worked with a 4th grade reading level and provided 3 language options (English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole).

Responsive Menus | Drupal.org

Fri, 02/07/2014 - 10:17 -- rprice

Responsify your menus! Just give me a CSS/jQuery style selector of your menu and I will make it mobile friendly (when the time is right). Technically you could set this to affect any element on the page... e.g. collapse a sidebar or content area at a certain screen width. (Using certain styles).

Libraries evolving into technology and community centers - Orlando Sentinel

Mon, 10/21/2013 - 13:51 -- rprice

The next step in innovation is just around the corner, as the library prepares to open an ambitious technology-and-training center at the downtown branch. The technology center, opening in February, will include music, film and photography studios, editing bays, driving and flight simulators, even a fabrication lab with 3-D printers. Those 3-D printers are already in use for demonstration purposes. They are able to scan and replicate with amazing precision objects ranging from children's toys to cooking implements.

Fri, 09/14/2012 - 15:13 -- rprice

Leah Fairchild did an installation in front of Urban ReThink in Thornton Park called "public library." Its a box with books inside. Very simple. But you can take the books. You can leave your old books behind. You can write a book and leave it. How fun is this?
