Old Media, Welcome to New Media Land

Wed, 03/12/2008 - 17:34 -- rprice

OR "How the battle became a collaboration".

To the Editors of Popular Science:

You win.

Actually, I'm not a quitter, so I'll say this: I've decided that instead of being "versus" each other, some of you Old Media types (can I say Traditional Media? thanks) actually care about your audience. Therefore, we are actually on the same side, you and me. That's why today, I changed the name of my blog to "Ryan Price and the Media". The arc of my story is changing, Act II is beginning (but please wait until the pops are two seconds apart).

Some People

Mon, 02/18/2008 - 17:37 -- rprice

Some people are weird.

Some people send me emails and IMs late at night on the day after I got back from England. ::YAWN:: just writing the word yawn makes me yawn and then I feel even more tired. Still, I have something going on in my head that prevents me from going to bed until I pay them some attention. Inbox zero, or something like that, right?

Some people are warm, and pleasant to talk to, but still email me late at night on the day after I got back from England.

The Second Click and Lijit Search Wijits

Mon, 02/11/2008 - 01:28 -- rprice

If you haven't noticed the lovely Lijit search wijit on the left sidebar here, please leave your feed reader and come check it out. This is a very interesting concept to me - they're taking the Google Personalized Search tools and providing a very user-friendly (and statistical) interface to the tool. A mash-up with a business model? Amazing. I've also read on their blog that they're going to start tracking comments on your sites as well and I suppose integrating that with the other statistics and search metrics you're already getting. Good times.

Drupal Easy

Wed, 01/23/2008 - 13:23 -- rprice

A while ago, Charlie and I were talking about how we could share our love of Drupal with the rest of the world. Our natural desires to create original content and extend the reach Cervo Systems helped us develop the idea for a website, a podcast and a community around making Drupal accessible to people with no knowledge of programming.

Welcome Drupal Easy to our family.

New Year's Reflection

Sun, 01/06/2008 - 19:00 -- rprice

Last night, I talked to (more like was interviewed by) Stephen McKenney Steck, the President Emeritus of the local PBS and NPR affiliates here in town. He was very interested in what I've done and what I'm doing, and he asked me several times to send him links to everything I talked about. While composing the email, I noticed a pattern. I would talk about the project and then I felt compelled to say "but this is what it's really supposed to accomplish". This gets me thinking...

Facebook, the Devil, and Me (historic)

Thu, 11/29/2007 - 20:35 -- rprice

Think back to two years ago - had you heard of the Facebook? If you were in college, you most certainly had. When I returned home on a trip from Michigan for a fraternity convention, all of my friends asked "are you on facebook?" and seemed shocked that I was only on LiveJournal and MySpace... they were ALL on facebook, and they were all friends from the first time they'd met. It was the "real" Second Life. After lots of "no, I don't have a school e-mail", I found that Nathan had two school emails, so he let me use one.

Use Yahoo Site Explorer to get Top 10 Pages for your Site

Wed, 11/21/2007 - 07:18 -- rprice

A while back I installed an excellent plugin for Firefox called SearchStatus. In addition to showing me the pagerank and compete score of any page I visit (I think it does Alexa, but I have a different plugin for that), it also gives you this handy right-click menu with lots of neat stuff in it. Most useful was a list of all the pages that Google, MSN and Yahoo! index on your site. For this blog, the list is interesting, but I'm not trying to make a living being me, so I checked out OrlandoScene.TV, my up-and-coming video podcast.
