legendary LA graffiti writer, publisher and activist, named TEMPTONE. Tempt1 was diagnosed with ALS in 2003, a disease which has left him almost completely physically paralyzed… except for his eyes. This international team is working together to create a low-cost, open source eye-tracking system that will allow ALS patients to draw using just their eyes.

in a quest to produce the ultimate chair, designer jan habraken and his team at formnation developed chairgenics as a matter of scientific inquiry: if the chair had DNA, what might its descendants look like; and in a race for survival of the fittest, which combination of elements approaches genetic perfection? could modern technology breed the perfect chair? in setting up parameters for the technical hypothesis, formnation considered the genetic makeup of chairs in terms of ergonomics, durability, construction, costs and aesthetics; assigning a 1-10 value for each piece of furniture.

Libraries evolving into technology and community centers - Orlando Sentinel

The next step in innovation is just around the corner, as the library prepares to open an ambitious technology-and-training center at the downtown branch. The technology center, opening in February, will include music, film and photography studios, editing bays, driving and flight simulators, even a fabrication lab with 3-D printers. Those 3-D printers are already in use for demonstration purposes. They are able to scan and replicate with amazing precision objects ranging from children's toys to cooking implements.

Fractured Atlas is an arts nonprofit that's involved in software development. Earlier this year, they acquired for-profit tech firm Gemini SBS as part of a continuing expansion into software products. On Monday, they're formally unveiling free, web-based backend software for cash-strapped nonprofits. Artful.ly is described as a “web-based software system that transforms how smaller arts organizations sell tickets, raise funds, and grow their audiences and organizations.”

Artful.ly has allowed the group more control over its box office, rather than relying on a third-party to manage it, and offers a more detailed picture of its fans, which comes in handy when a patron inquires about buying up seats to an entire show for a private event. Now, she said, when she speaks to patrons, she knows if they have already donated to Third Rail Projects, or have come to see a show four times.

There are 800,000 sheet music titles available to sighted musicians. There are only about 20,000 available as braille to blind musicians (a fraction of 1%). These stretch goals describe how we can more than double that number with this project!

Bringing Art and Technology Together

A few years ago, I had an idea to make the kind of conference I'd like to attend. Turns out the Art and Algorithms event in Titusville looked like a really great version, but I didn't get the chance to check it out. When I go to BarCamps and other similar events, I often advise people to decide on their mission, and who their audience is before they start a new project, so here is my shot at it:
