Piano Lightbox » minor9th.com

Thu, 07/05/2012 - 15:28 -- rprice

I’d like to make a piano which spews light, cleverly, depending on what keys are pressed. It should be fairly seamless and not overt, so the workings need to hide inside, but the basic premise is:

Someone plays the keys -> Some magic processing happens -> The music is interpreted, tastefully, in light form and slips out from above the keybed, over the top of the piano and beyond.

Overtone

Thu, 02/09/2012 - 08:44 -- rprice

Overtone is an open source audio environment being created to explore musical ideas from synthesis and sampling to instrument building, live-coding and collaborative jamming. We use the SuperCollider synth server as the audio engine, with Clojure being used to develop the APIs and the application. Synthesizers, effects, analyzers and musical generators can be programmed in Clojure.

First Listen: Field Music, 'Plumb' : NPR

Wed, 02/08/2012 - 10:08 -- rprice

Full of dynamic, progressive-rock-inspired songs that would make the members of Yes jealous, Plumb is seasoned with just the right amount of handclaps, acoustic guitar accents, bubbling synths and segued song suites to appeal to both the long-haired rock theoreticians of yesteryear and the bespectacled post-rockers of today, not to mention those simply looking for their New Favorite Band. I'm pretty sure I've found mine.

Where is the video crew in this film?

Mon, 01/02/2012 - 06:43 -- rprice

The Kogeto is an exciting piece of hardware for any video geeks our there: It films in a full 360ª panorama, and comes with special software to be able to upload and view the video. They also have an iPhone version. Watching this video just now, I see that there are a ton of new tricks that can be employed when filming "in the round". However, I have a similar thought every time I watch one of Disney's 360 films at Epcot: where is the film crew? Unless they are laying on the ground under the camera. Where is the director?

New Music by my favorite artists - Muppets and Ben Folds

Thu, 09/22/2011 - 07:56 -- rprice

When Disney bought the rights to the "main" Muppet characters, I have to say I was a little worried about what they would do with them. I grew up with these characters, and we are now certainly in the second or third generation of many Muppet players, so there are now many reasons for the original vision and spirit to get distilled.

Still - once a fanboy, always a fanboy - I can't get enough Muppet stuff, old or new.

Streaming Music from a NAS at Home to an Android Phone

Sat, 06/25/2011 - 15:05 -- rprice

I have a huge music collection that I digitized years ago that I don't / can't carry around with me everywhere. I have been keeping my files on a Network-Attached Storage (NAS) device I picked up on rebate - basically some hard drives connected to a low-powered computer with a network cable. I've been looking for a way to play tunes when I'm out in the yard weeding or gardening, or when I'm halfway across the globe. Following is a summary of how I got it to work.

May is a Kickass Month for Arts Events in Orlando

Wed, 05/14/2008 - 17:31 -- rprice

Why is May such a great month for holding events? Sure, for our Northern friends, it means the end of bad weather, the opening of roller coaster parks, and a change in the scenery as the trees and flowers start to show their summer colors, but here in Florida, it's more like the start of the summer's hot, humid, rainy monotony, the arrival of the tourists, time-share owners, kids on summer vacation, religious zealots protesting Gay Days, and of course, bad drivers in rental cars.

Tell those bitches!

Tue, 03/04/2008 - 04:54 -- rprice

Don't you love all those form letters you get about "We can get you to the top of search engines", and "I'd like to buy text links from you"? I know I do, and I'm not alone...

My friend Marc, otherwise known as "marc with a c" to the music community of Orlando, has recently decided to let 'em have it. He was contacted by a chain-lettering, canvassing, music rep from Hitt Music Group.

Here's a sample of Marc's reply from his MySpace blog:
