In an effort to scratch my own itch, I remembered a time when I wanted to burn some files to data CD or DVD and thinking "there must be an easier way to do this". Enter Automator, basically the most powerful and underused feature on any Mac.
Update: With the release of Firefox v2.0 this week, you can now customize your feed subscription engine. Netvibes is not one of the choices, but this post on the Netvibes blog shows you how to set it up.
My first screencast ever, made with $20 shareware app iShowU and free sound capture application Soundflower. You can record directly to H.264 and a slough of other codecs, but I recorded to Apple Animation, which made a ~ 600MB file, which I compressed with Quicktime Pro down to 60MB.
I have been installing Drupal sites like crazy recently, and one thing that really helps a Drupal site thrive is the Clean URLs feature. Clean URLs and smart permalinks and all sorts of things require Apache's wonderful mod_rewrite to be active. This isn't very hard, but it is if you don't know what you're doing.
This HowTo assumes that you have control over your entire server. If you don't, you need to contact your hosting support, or whichever geeky cousin you are getting your hosting from.
Here are three easy steps to enable search-engine-friendly URLs:
Replace "thickmints" with your username.
++del.icio.us (drag this to your toolbar)
javascript:location.href='
http://del.icio.us/thickmints?url='
+encodeURIComponent(location.href)+'&title='
+encodeURIComponent(document.title)
The story of starting a blogging business is not a new one: if you listen to as many podcasts and read as many blogs as I do (which is not a large amount), the formula stares you in the face. There have been covers stories in BusinessWeek that caught huge attention for blogs. Whereas a year ago I would not have been able to say so, my dad now knows what blogging is. So when I tell him I am interested in pursuing blogging for money, he didn't shoot down the idea right away.
Ryan’s Black Bean Dip:
I make this dip every year for the Superbowl and many other social gatherings. The fresh basil and the green salsa are what make this dip so great. Don’t forget these ingredients at the store. Also, try this as a burrito filling, as a side dish, or even an omlette topping. Don’t think just any chips will suffice. Store brands don’t hold a candle to the excellence of Manny’s, Tostito’s and other thin crispy varieties. “Nacho” chips are not what I had in mind when I invented this dip. Grab some cerveza and enjoy!
